Projects

One of the ways we teach is through projects. When we do a project, we build a practical item that involves several skills. These projects are preceded by a lesson on the same material and usually take more than one lesson to complete. The boys can always take home any projects they complete. Several recent projects are listed below.

Students constructed their very own fully disassemble-able and portable bucksaws. Skills involved — drills, chisels, general woodworking skills, and lots of hand saws.
Students created charcoal chimneys, which are used instead of lighter fluid when starting a grill. This project accompanied our unit on grilling.
Students built and wired an industrial-style lamp. Skills involved — electricity, wiring, AC voltage, drilling, and pipe fittings.
The Battle Bridge is a game carefully designed for maximum fun. Marbles are shot across the bridge, scored in holes and obstructed by pegs. Skills involved — drills, including how to use them, different bits, and techniques.
